In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the struggle of economically disadvantaged communities is even more difficult. In this time of great uncertainty, it is critical that we come together to provide relief and health care resources to these families throughout the Chicago region. Recent data suggesting the virus’s impact on minority communities will have up to six times greater deadly consequences. Responding to this call to action for the populations we serve, Access to Care has made the following temporary modifications to the current program.
Access to Care serves over 5,000 members annually and we will continue to grow and expand our reach. Prior to the latest efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, it was estimated that 513,000 residents of Cook County, alone, will remain uninsured by 2021. We expect this number will now climb and ATC will be there to continue to fill the gap. As one of the few programs that leverages the potential of private practice physicians and service providers to create an efficient public-private partnership. Contracts were developed with providers of lab, x-ray, and pharmacy services so ATC members would pay affordable co-payments. The original structure of the program has been proven successful for over 30 years due to the generous support and partnership of our doctors, intake locations, board members, donors, and staff.
Access to Care needs your support to ensure we can continue our efforts. Through this unprecedented struggle, we have united around a common goal, "To take care of each other". When you contribute to ATC Response to COVID-19, you will help send immediate aid to low-income, uninsured and under-insured residents in our community.
